HOW TO: ORGANIZE YOUR JUNK DRAWER

1) TAKE A BEFORE PICTURE

I have a bad habit of forgetting to take a before picture. While this doesn't affect the success of your goal to reorganize a space, it can be an excellent reminder of how far you've come, and the progress you've made.

2) REMOVE EVERYTHING & CLEAN THE DRAWER

3) BUY OR MAKE DRAWER DIVIDERS

This is the product that I used from MadeSmart. Whatever you decide to use as a drawer divider sure they use up every single inch.

4) ORGANIZE ITEMS & LOCK IN DRAWER DIVIDER LAYOUT

  • Remove trash and items that don't belong in your junk drawer.

  • Junk drawers are landing areas for a lot of random items, be sure to sift through everything and remove what no longer belongs.

  • Group like items together. These will be sectioned off into your drawer dividers.

  • Place the drawer dividers into your drawer, moving them around until you find a layout that makes sense for you.

You can buy the museum gel here.

5) PLACE ITEMS BACK IN DRAWER.

Place frequently used items near the front of the drawer and less frequently used items near the back.

6) LABEL

If you own a label maker you could consider using it here. Labelling ensures that items can easily be located and returned to their correct home. I have had a DYMO label maker for the last 10 years and it still works perfectly.

7) ADMIRE YOUR WORK!

Take an after picture and admire your work! Share your before and afters with me on Try Organizing's Facebook or Instagram page. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Email me at tryorganizing@gmail.com.

You've got this!
